I was excited to realize 2018 is my 40
thyear in education! I am amazed that I could still
be working at a job this long that I love.
I like to tell people I was just a teenager when I started teaching. As a senior in high school, I received a scholarship for the Archdiocese of Philadelphia. I would go to college for 1 year full time then continue with night school while teaching during the day. Cabrini College accepted me. My first teaching assignment was 2
ndgrade at Good Shepherd School in South West Philadelphia. I taught there for 3 years then went to Stella Maris School in South Philadelphia for 7 years. At Stella Maris I taught 2
ndgrade for 2 years, 1
stgrade for 1 year and Kindergarten for 4 years.
I graduated Cabrini College in May 1980, married my sweetheart John in June 1980 and had my 1
stdaughter in 1984. Because of my babies I took time off from teaching. John and I have 4 daughters and 6 grandchildren.
For 12 years, I taught at a Lutheran Preschool when my daughters were little. One day my friend, Mrs. Dammer came to me and told me there was a job waiting for me at Maternity B.V.M School. In the beginning I taught 3 and 4 year olds. Now I only teach the four year olds. I’ve been at Maternity BVM for 18 years.
Little children are the best and in school we have the most fun. I love teaching the little ones all about our beautiful Catholic religion. My great privilege is to introduce young students to God’s eternal love for each one of us. My work has been my joy and blessing.
